Erxat Ibrayim and Dilnur Iskandar, both born in Hami, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, met and fell in love during their time when they worked and studied in Urumqi. After getting married, Erxat left his well-paid job to become an entrepreneur. His wife joined him in moving to a woodcarving artisans' village in Hetian County, Hotan Prefecture. There, they sourced walnut wood to handcraft natural kitchenware, which they marketed via live-streaming to domestic and international customers. Their efforts have revitalized Hotan's traditional woodcarving techniques while creating a sustainable supply chain that supports local artisans with stable jobs and higher earnings.
